If we are under grace and not under law, does the law still have any use?
Yes. Although believers are under grace, not under law, the law is not thrown out as useless. It remains basic even in the age of grace. The Ten Commandments are part and parcel of our social fabric, shaping man's relationship with God and with his fellow man.
Les teaches that he is known as the teacher who maintains believers are not under law but under grace, yet he also insists he is not throwing the law out the window as of no use. The law is basic, even in the age of grace. Jesus lumped the commandments into two great areas of human relationships: man with his God and man with his fellow man. The commandments about home, family, neighbors, and co-workers especially concern our fellow man. Paul then comes back in Romans 13, beginning at verse 8, saying, “Owe no man anything,” with “defraud” as a better translation, “but to”—and he asks what the word is. The Ten Commandments are part and parcel of our social fabric; though every child of God will fail, by God’s grace we are to respond to these ten.
