What was God's spiritual remedy for Moses' inability to bear the people alone?
God's remedy was to have Moses gather seventy men of Israel's elders, known as elders and officers, and bring them to the tabernacle of the congregation so they could stand with him. The seventy signified God's doing, being ten times seven.
Les teaches that after Moses confessed he could not bear all the people alone and asked to be killed if he had found favor, God gave the spiritual remedy in Numbers 11:16. The Lord told Moses to gather seventy men of the elders of Israel, men known as elders of the people and officers over them, and bring them to the tabernacle of the congregation to stand with him. Les points out that seven is the number of God, so seventy is ten times seven, indicating this was God's doing. The priesthood had been established by now, and the tabernacle was in the midst of the camp.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
