What did God do to Moses after he fled Egypt?

After Moses fled Egypt, God took him to the back side of the desert and made him a sheepherder for 40 years. He lived with sheep, had almost no human contact, and became a nothing. God did this before approaching him at the burning bush to use him.

Les explains that Moses went out to the children of Israel assuming they would understand he was going to deliver them, but he left God out and used his own position. So God took him to the back side of the desert and put him in a sheep herd—which in Egyptian eyes was an abomination. For 40 years Moses lived with smelly sheep, with almost no contact with humans, and became a nothing. When God finally approached him at the burning bush, Moses' first excuse was 'I can't talk,' because after 40 years of practically being silent he had almost forgotten how. Les says that is where God had to take even Moses before He could use him. He draws a parallel to the Apostle Paul, who was highly educated under Gamaliel and from a wealthy Jewish family, but also had to be taken down to a nobody.
