What did Moses do for the Israelites after the golden calf sin?

After the golden calf sin, Moses interceded for the Israelites. He told them they had sinned greatly, went up to the Lord to seek atonement or covering for their sin, confessed they made gods of gold, and asked God to forgive them, even offering to be blotted from God's book. The Lord told him to lead the people onward.

In Exodus 32, after the people sinned by making the golden calf, Moses went back up to the Lord. He told the people, "You have sinned a great sin," and said he would go up to the Lord, perhaps to make atonement—a covering—for their sin. Before God, Moses confessed that the people had sinned greatly and made gods of gold. He asked God to forgive them, but the sentence was left unfinished because he could not imagine how God would forgive such gross sin. He then said, "If not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written." The Lord answered that whoever sinned against Him would be blotted out of His book. God told Moses to go and lead the people to the place He had spoken of, and His angel would go before him. Nevertheless, in the day when God visited, He would visit their sin upon them; the Lord plagued the people because they made the calf Aaron made. So Moses interceded, led them onward, and God's judgment still came.

Exodus 32:30

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.

Exodus 32:31

And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
