Did Christ go to the cross once or repeatedly?

Christ went to the cross once, not repeatedly. Scripture says He was smitten for our offenses, and that smiting occurred only once. He does not go again and again. After being smitten and rising victorious over sin and death, believers appropriate it through fellowship, speaking, and prayer, not another crucifixion.

Les teaches that before we could appropriate these things by faith, Christ first had to suffer and die. In Old Testament terms, He was smitten for our offenses. Les emphasizes that the Hebrew word is over and over "once," and this He did once. He went to the cross once; He does not go again and again and again. Les connects this to Moses striking the rock in Numbers: you don't smite Christ twice. After Christ's once-for-all smiting and His resurrection, victorious over sin and death, we do not appropriate anything more by another crucifixion. Instead, we appropriate it through fellowship, speaking, communication, and prayer—praising and petitioning Him, not through another smiting.
