How many times was Christ crucified?
Christ was crucified only once. The book of Hebrews emphasizes that He did this once, never more than once, in contrast to the Old Testament high priests who repeated their sacrifices. His single crucifixion accomplished the work of the cross, providing living water.
Les explains that the smitten rock in the wilderness was a picture of Christ, who was smitten for our transgressions. He points out that Christ was crucified only once, and the book of Hebrews makes this emphatic: 'this He did once,' never more than once. In contrast, the Old Testament high priests did their sacrifices over and over, but Christ entered in once. As a result of the work of the cross, God can pour out living water on the human race.
