How many times did Christ offer himself, and what did he obtain?
Christ offered Himself only once, not year after year as the human priests did. By that single finished work He obtained eternal redemption for us. Scripture emphasizes that He did this once, and believers are never to lose sight of that accomplished redemption.
Les explains that the Old Testament high priest and tabernacle worship prefigured Christ's work. Those priests were human and died, so others had to take their place, and the ritual was repeated year after year. By contrast, Christ's finished work is described in Hebrews as "once." For this He did once, and He obtained eternal redemption for us. Les also notes that tabernacle worship was a burden and a yoke for Israel because everything had to be done exactly right, but believers are free from all that because Christ has done it all on our behalf.
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
