Why do people not like to face death?
People dislike facing death because it separates them from loved ones and ends their participation in earthly pursuits and plans. For those not identified with Christ, death is also fearful, since it does not lead to something better but to eternal doom, something far worse.
Les explains that people do not like to face death for a multitude of reasons: they do not want to leave their loved ones, and they want to remain part and parcel of their energy, designs, and ongoing plans. Yet for the saint, death is glorious—it is just on to something far better. That hope is tied to resurrection, so believers do not live and die with the prospect of eternal doom but with the prospect that the best is yet to come. By contrast, those who have not experienced this identification have reason to fear death, because it does not take them to something better but to something a thousand, a million times worse.
