Do all people hate death, even those in severe pain?
Generally, yes: under normal circumstances all people hate death, and creation itself avoids and hates death. Those racked with severe pain may look forward to death as an exception, but on the whole humanity does not treasure death; this aversion is part of the curse.
Les explains that death has passed upon the whole human race and the whole creation, so everything faces death. He observes from nature—insects, flies, animals, and even cattle reacting to a dead animal—that everything tries to maintain life and hates death. He notes that he does not know anybody who treasures death, giving the example of his 96-year-old grandmother who wished the Lord would come but called for the doctor when her heart fluttered. He acknowledges that people racked with pain may look forward to death, but on the whole, under normal circumstances, all hate death, and it is as it should be because it is part of the curse.
