How did God open the Red Sea in Exodus 14?
God opened the Red Sea by having Moses stretch his rod over the waters. The waters opened up, and the people walked through on dry land. Later, at God's command, Moses stretched out his hand again, and the sea returned to its strength.
Les explains that in Exodus 14 God opened the Red Sea by virtue of Moses stretching his rod over the waters. It opened up, and the people walked through on dry land. Then at verse 26, the Lord told Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea so the waters would come again upon the Egyptians, their chariots, and their horsemen. Moses stretched forth his hand, and the sea returned to its strength. When morning appeared, the Egyptians fled against it, and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. The waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; not so much as one remained. Les notes that Scripture does not indicate whether Pharaoh himself led his armies, and he rather doubts it.
But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
