How did God open the Red Sea for the Israelites?

God opened the Red Sea when Moses stretched his rod over the waters. The sea opened up, and the Israelites walked through on dry land. Later, the Lord told Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea so the waters returned and covered the Egyptians, their chariots, and horsemen.

Les explains that in Exodus 14, God opened the Red Sea by virtue of Moses stretching his rod over the waters. It opened up, and the Israelites walked through on dry land. Then the Lord told Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea so the waters would come again upon the Egyptians, their chariots, and their horsemen. Moses stretched forth his hand, and the sea returned to his strength. When morning appeared, the Egyptians fled against it, and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. The waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them, and there remained not so much as one of them. Les also notes that Scripture does not indicate whether Pharaoh himself led his armies, and he rather doubts it.

Exodus 14:21

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
