Why are we able to walk through on dry ground — is it because of what we have done?

We are able to walk through on dry ground not by anything we have done or deserve, but entirely because of what Christ has done for us. Salvation comes by grace through faith, not by our own works or merit, so the ground is dry because God acted on our behalf.

Les explains the Red Sea picture: Israel was locked in and unable to save themselves, and Moses said, 'Stand still, and see the salvation of God.' That illustrates Ephesians 2's 'But God'—not 'but you' or 'but I.' Les emphasizes that God opened the Red Sea, and that is exactly what He has done for us. We walk through on dry ground not by anything we have done or deserve, but because of what Christ has done for us in and through us. Paul grounds this in God's mercy and great love: even when we were dead, hopeless, and helpless, He quickened us together with Christ. Salvation is by grace through faith, and that not of yourselves; Les asks whether anyone works for a gift.
