What brought Israel out of the darkness of slavery in Egypt?

The power of God brought Israel out of Egypt's darkness and slavery. When Israel was trapped against the Red Sea and could do nothing, God's power entered in and became her escape. Scripture contrasts this with salvation, where God delivers believers from the power of darkness by His glorious power.

Les explains that Israel had to reach the place where she recognized she was up against the Red Sea, up against it, with nothing she could do and doomed. Until what? The power of God entered in, and that was her escape. He then applies the same pattern to salvation: everyone was separated from God and in the bondage of sin, and had to come to the place where the power of God alone could do it. Turning to Colossians 1, Paul writes of being strengthened according to God's glorious power, giving thanks to the Father who has made us partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, who has delivered us from the power of darkness. Egypt, or Israel, was in the darkness of slavery back in Egypt, but what brought them out? The power of God. For the believer this deliverance is past tense: God has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us from that darkness; it is not something we are working toward or hoping for but something we have right now.
