Les Feldick Bible Study

Why is it so difficult to raise children today?

Raising children today is difficult because many young people have no principles, no absolutes, and no compunctions for right and wrong, so good children are surrounded by bad friends who can destroy them. Scripture warns that a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Les explains that looking back at his own youth and at the lives of others, he saw how often good young people were totally destroyed by bad friends. That is what makes raising kids so difficult today: so many of them are simply bad people who have no compunctions for right and wrong, no principles, and no absolutes. It is hard for good parents to raise a good child in the midst of all those bad friends. He points to Proverbs 13:20: “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Solomon writes Proverbs, often in the material realm, but Les says it holds both materially and spiritually—you will never rise any higher than the people you fellowship with.
