Why don't the celestial bodies in the universe crash into one another or fall out of orbit?
Christ, the Creator and sustainer of the universe, upholds all things by the word of His power. The billions of celestial bodies do not crash into one another or drop out of orbit because He has them all under control. Their ordered motion demonstrates His sovereign sustaining work over creation.
Les teaches that Colossians presents Christ as the image of the invisible God, the firstborn, the Creator and sustainer of the universe. By Him all things were created in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, thrones, dominions, principalities, and all things were created by Him and for Him. Hebrews 1:3 then says God the Son is the brightness of the glory of the Godhead, the express visible image of His person, and He upholds all things by the word of His power. Les applies this to the vast universe with billions upon billions of celestial bodies: they do not crash into one another or drop out of orbit because Christ has them all under control. This is beyond comprehension, but it illustrates that God knows every single celestial body, and therefore He is aware of every individual.
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
