Les Feldick Bible Study

What is a loaf of bread actually made of, and how does that picture the church?

A loaf of bread is actually made from umpteen individual kernels of wheat ground into flour and then baked into one loaf. That pictures the church because believers, though many, become a composite of individual members joined into one body, so being many are one bread in the fellowship of Christ's body.

Les teaches that the bread speaks of much the same thing as the body of Christ. A loaf of bread comes from wheat, and a bin full of wheat or grain is made up of individual kernels. Every time you eat a loaf of bread, it is comprised of umpteen kernels of wheat that were ground into flour and then made into bread. The analogy holds: as members of the body of Christ, believers are just like that loaf of bread, which has become a composite of all those individual kernels of grain. So we are the fellowship of the blood of Christ, and the bread which we break is the fellowship of the body of Christ. For we being many are one bread. Even though that loaf comes from several thousand kernels of wheat, yet in the final makeup it is one loaf.
