Why can Jesus understand the temptations you face?
Jesus can understand the temptations you face because He Himself faced them all. The temptations common to every man, woman, boy, and girl living on earth were faced by Him. He knows them because He has been there, so He understands what you face.
Les teaches that every temptation is common to man, and God is faithful not to permit testing beyond what you can bear. With the testing, He provides a way of escape. Les illustrates this with a Greek picture of an army trapped in a canyon; the commander finds another canyon to escape. In the same way, God reveals the escape at the appropriate time. Les then notes that the temptations common to every person were faced by the Lord Jesus Himself, so He knows them because He has been there.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
What has God promised when you are tempted?
God is faithful and will not permit you to be tempted above what you are able, but with the temptation He will also make a way to escape, so that you may be able to bear it. This is a promise, and there is no need to fail or stumble, though we do.
Did Jesus face all the temptations common to man?
Yes. The temptations that are common to every man, woman, boy, and girl living on earth are the same for everyone, and the Lord Jesus Himself faced them all. He knows and understands what we face because He has been there.
Did Jesus face the same temptations we face, and does He understand them?
Yes. The temptations common to every person are the same for every individual, and the Lord Jesus Himself faced them all. Because He has been there, He knows and understands them, so we can look to Him in our testing.
