Did Jesus face the same temptations we face, and does He understand them?
Yes. The temptations common to every person are the same for every individual, and the Lord Jesus Himself faced them all. Because He has been there, He knows and understands them, so we can look to Him in our testing.
Les explains that every temptation or testing that comes our way is common to man. He notes that God is faithful and will not permit us to be tested above what we are able to withstand, but with the testing He will also make a way to escape so we can bear it. Les says the Greek picture of a way of escape is an army trapped in a canyon, when escape seemed impossible, until the commander found another small canyon off to the side. Likewise, when we feel entrapped in temptation, God will reveal the escape at the appropriate time. Les also states that the temptations are the same for every individual, and the Lord Jesus Himself faced them all, so He knows because He has been there.
