Les Feldick Bible Study

What should you do when a temptation feels like there's no way out?

Trust God’s faithfulness. He will not permit you to be tested beyond what you are able to withstand, and with the testing He also makes a way of escape so you can bear it. Even when temptation seems inescapable, a way out exists and God will reveal it at the appropriate time.

Les explains that nothing comes our way except what is common to man, and even though we are not faithful, God is faithful. He will not permit you to be tested above what you are able to withstand, but with the testing He will also make a way to escape so you can bear it. Les illustrates this from a Greek author’s definition: it pictures an army entrapped in a canyon, with no apparent escape, until the commander finds another little canyon off to the side and lets his army escape. That is the picture here. We can find ourselves seemingly entrapped in a temptation and think there is no escape, but there is, and God will reveal it to us at the appropriate time. Les also notes that the Lord Jesus Himself faced all these common temptations, so He knows because He has been there.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
