How do we escape a temptation that is about to get us?

When temptation is about to get you, look for the way of escape God has provided and flee idolatry. Recognize that cars, cattle, gardens, children, business, or a job can become idols. Paul's admonition is to watch out, not let something become your idol, and put the Lord first and foremost.

Les teaches that believers are people of choice. When confronted with a temptation and we know it is about to get us, we should look for the way of escape because God has provided it. In I Corinthians 10:14, Paul says, 'Wherefore, because of that ability to find a way of escape, wherefore my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.' Les warns that people should not dismiss idolatry as irrelevant. He suggests most idols in America sit in the garage—the automobile can become an idol. He also notes that cattle, a garden, kids, grandkids, business, or job can become an idol. Paul's admonition is to look out and not let something become your idol, but put the Lord first and foremost. Even though the Corinthians were carnal and had many problems living the Christian life, Paul approaches them as wise men.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
