Why did God the Creator go to the Roman cross and suffer at the hands of man?

The Creator went to the Roman cross and suffered at the hands of mankind so that He could have people in eternity. The context presents this as being just for the salvation of mankind. It remains beyond human comprehension why and how the Creator did all that, but He did it.

Les teaches that from the human side he cannot comprehend that the One who created the universe, who created man and brought him up out of the dust and breathed into him the breath of life, went to the Roman cross and suffered at the hands of mankind. The stated purpose was so that He could have me and you in eternity, just for the salvation of mankind. Les says it is beyond him why and how the Creator did all that, but He did.
