Why did the Creator who made the universe go to the Roman cross and suffer at the hands of mankind?
The Creator made the universe and formed man from dust, yet He went to the Roman cross and suffered at the hands of mankind so that He could have people with Him in eternity. His purpose was the salvation of mankind; though this is beyond human comprehension, He did it.
Les explains that from the human side, he cannot comprehend that the One who created the universe—the One who created man, brought him up out of the dust, and breathed into him the breath of life—went to that Roman cross and suffered at the hands of mankind. The reason given is so that He could have me and you in eternity. Les says this is beyond him: why and how the Creator did all that just for the salvation of mankind. But He did. The context also notes that some Corinthians, even though saved, still lacked comprehension of our God compared to powerless idols.
