Les Feldick Bible Study

What does it mean that you do not glorify God in your body?

It means failing to use the body of flesh—where one lives, moves, works, and plays—for God's glory. Since one is bought with the price of Christ's blood, joining with prostitutes or being unfaithful to a spouse does not glorify God in the body and brings reproach.

Les explains that because there is no forgiveness of sin without the shed blood of Christ, and the Old Testament animal sacrifices never brought true atonement, the believer is now atoned and redeemed. Being bought with a price—the blood of Christ—means that in this body of flesh, in which we live, move, work, and play, everything should redound to the glory of God. Paul's point is that if a person hobnobs with prostitutes or the immoral, having no fidelity with a spouse, then that person does not glorify God in the body; it brings reproach. This serves as an introduction to chapter 7.

1 Corinthians 6:20
