Why should believers glorify God in their body?

Believers should glorify God in their body because their body is the temple or dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, whom they have from God. They are not their own, having been bought with a price—not money, but the blood of Christ—so their bodies belong to the Creator God.

Les teaches from 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 that Paul asks, “Don’t you know that your body is the temple or dwelling place of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have of God?” The Spirit is not purchased; Simon tried to buy the gift and power of the Holy Spirit in Samaria, and Peter said, “Your money perish with you.” The Holy Spirit is a gift of God. Therefore believers are not their own; verse 20 says they are bought with a price—not with money, but with the blood of Christ, as Peter puts it in his little epistle. So believers glorify God in their body because the body is the indwelling Spirit’s temple, and they all belong to the Creator God Himself.

1 Corinthians 6:20

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
