How does the Passover relate to Christ and the church?
Christ is the church's Passover: as Israel was spared judgment when the lamb's blood was on the door, so when Christ died on the Roman cross and shed His blood, those who come under that blood are passed over from any judgment. The blood is the crucial point.
Les explains that the Passover in Egypt is a picture of the church age. The Jews in Egypt were told to kill the sacrificial lamb and place the blood on the doorposts and lintel. At midnight the death angel was going to go over Egypt and kill every firstborn male. As Israel huddled in their huts, people of faith were not afraid of the death angel because the blood was on the door; they were secure and covered. Paul brings that truth up to the church age: even as our Passover, when Christ died on the Roman cross, His blood was shed. When we come under that blood, we are passed over from any judgment. The crucial point, often left out today, is the blood.
