How does Paul apply the Passover to the church age and to Christ's death on the cross?
Paul applies Israel’s Passover to the church age by showing that Christ is our Passover. When Christ died on the Roman cross, His blood was shed, and anyone who comes under that blood is passed over from judgment, just as Israel was secure under the blood on the door.
Les explains that Paul takes the Exodus Passover and applies it to the church age. In Egypt, the Jews had been slaves and were told that if they killed the sacrificial lamb and placed the blood on the two doorposts and the lintel, they would be safe. At midnight the death angel would go over Egypt and kill every firstborn male, but Israel huddled in their little huts with nothing to fear if they were people of faith, because the blood was on the door. They were secure, knowing the blood covered them. Les says Paul brings this all the way up to the church age: even as our Passover, when Christ died on the Roman cross, His blood was shed. The crucial point often left out today is the blood. When we come under that blood, we are passed over from any judgment.
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
