Where should a Christian's loyalty be centered instead of on a preacher?

A Christian’s loyalty should be centered on the Word of God and on the Christ who brought us, not on a preacher. Loyalty to a man instead of to the Word and Christ is wrong; churches can fall apart when a pastor leaves because their attachment was to the man rather than to God’s Word and Christ.

Les explains that in Corinth some believers adhered to Paul because he brought them out of idolatry and immorality, while others followed Apollos because of his magnetism and charisma. He says this is understandable because people still do it today, and he has seen churches totally fall apart when a pastor leaves. That, he says, is not right: such a church has been loyal to the man instead of to the Word of God and the Christ whom they worship. So always remember not to put your eyes or hang your heart on a man, but instead let it be centered on the Word of God and on the Christ who brought us. He then notes another group in the church at Corinth that adhered to the Apostle Peter.
