What happens if a Christian fails badly—does God leave them?

No. If a believer fails badly, God does not leave or forsake them. Salvation rests on God's faithfulness, not human faithfulness. Those under the blood of Christ remain His; He will never give up on His own, and they are considered blameless because of Christ.

Les explains that even the carnal believer, like most of the Corinthians, will be taken up when the Lord comes and considered blameless because they are under the blood of Christ. The security is not based on the Corinthians' faithfulness or ours, but on God, who is faithful. Les points back to the Abrahamic covenant in Genesis 12: Israel broke it over and over, yet that did not annul it, because a covenant originates and ends with God, and He never breaks His covenants. In the same way, when God calls a person His own, saves them, and makes them part of the elect, He will never give up on them. We may fail miserably, but God is faithful; He will never forsake or leave us. This is true for us today as it was for the Corinthians: if we have entered into a genuine salvation experience, we are His and He is ours.

1 Corinthians 1:9

God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
