What does God do when a believer fails?

When a believer fails while walking in the Spirit and trying to please God, God does not cast him out. By His grace, He restores him, as a parent picks up a stumbling child and sets him back on his feet to continue.

Les explains that grace is not license—it does not tell the believer to go out and do what they please. But when a believer is under the power of the Holy Spirit, trying their best in the light of Scripture to walk pleasing in God's sight, and they fail, God does not kick them out. Les uses the illustration of a parent watching a little one take first faltering steps. When the child falls, the parent does not get upset and give him a boot; instead, the parent picks him up, gets him on those little wobbly feet, and gets him going. That is what God does.
