Does God kick out a believer who fails while sincerely trying to please Him?
No. When a believer walks under the Holy Spirit’s power, sincerely tries to please God in the light of Scripture, and then fails, God does not kick him out. The grace of God keeps him, not his own worthiness or performance.
Les teaches that the believer stands before God blameless because of His grace, that unmerited favor, and none of us deserve to stay saved, but we do because of His grace if we have been truly saved. He stresses that grace is not license; it does not tell the believer to go out and do what he pleases. Yet when the believer is under the power of the Holy Spirit and is trying his best in the light of Scripture to walk pleasing in God’s sight, and he fails, God does not kick him out. Les illustrates this with a parent watching a little one take first faltering steps. When the child falls, the parent does not give him a boot; instead, the parent picks him up, gets him on those wobbly feet, and gets him going. That is what God does.
