What would happen if almost everyone in a community lived out Romans 12-16?
If 99.9% of a community lived out Romans 12–16, that community would be the closest place to heaven on earth. Those chapters are ordinary and practical, not odd or disruptive, though none of us actually live them out. This is presented as the closest possible earthly condition.
Les teaches that Romans 12–16 contains nothing that would take a believer out of the mainstream of the community or make him a kook or oddball; everything in those chapters is ordinary and practical. He says that if people 99.9% lived out Romans 12–16, you would be in the closest place to heaven on earth, but we won't do it, none of us do. He also notes that the word “reasonable service” as Paul uses it involves the Greek words logike and latria, with latria meaning rituals or service, and compares it to Hebrews 9 where the same Greek word is used for divine service under the prescribed Law.
