How is the church like a fetus developing in the womb?

Just as a fetus in the womb is formed as the mother's body places cells precisely, completing fingers, eyes, and nails before delivery, so the Body of Christ is being built as God adds individual believers from every nation. When the process is complete, delivery follows.

Les explains that he uses an analogy from an article by a physiologist, possibly an embryologist, about the fetus in the womb. At the beginning of pregnancy, the mother's body immediately puts all different kinds of cells into exactly the right place. By the end of nine months, the little fetus has fingers, fingernails, eyes, and everything complete. The body rarely makes a mistake, such as making one finger much longer than it should be or making toes longer, but everything stops its cell-making process at just exactly the right time. When it is all completed and the little baby is finally complete, and the cell-making process stops, then delivery follows. Les then says the church is the same way: God has been adding individual believers from all around the world—Chinese, Japanese, Russians, Germans, French, British, Americans, Canadians, whatever. So the church is being formed by God's addition of believers, and when the process is complete, delivery follows.
