How is the body of Christ like the human body?

The body of Christ resembles the human body because every believer is baptized into one body and connected to the Head. As the mind controls and responds to every facet of the human body, so the Head governs the whole body of Christ, giving believers their position in Him.

Les explains that all believers, not just a chosen few, are baptized into one body—the body of Christ—which is like the human body. In the human body, the mind is the source of experiences, emotions, and thinking, and it controls every facet of the body while responding to it. So it is with the body of Christ: every believer is connected to the Head. Les points out that Paul never uses the illustration that church-age believers are sheep and Christ is the shepherd; being an intrinsic member of the body connected to the Head is greater and gives believers their position in Christ. Believers are not merely sheep under a shepherd but part and parcel of the Head and body. This higher plane appears especially in Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians.
