Why is Israel frantically trying to make peace?
Israel is being backed into a corner a little tighter all the time, and its government is frantically seeking peace because it wants to be accepted by the Gentile world. As in Samuel’s day, Israel desires to be like the nations around it rather than remain distinct.
Les explains that Israel is being backed into the corner a little bit tighter all the time, and this is why they are so frantically trying to make peace. He compares Israel today to Israel back at the time of Samuel: they said they wanted to be like the nations around them, not different anymore, and asked for a king. Samuel warned what a king would cost them, but they still wanted to be like the rest of the world. Israel is no different today, and its government is frantically seeking to be accepted by the Gentile world.
