Why does Israel want their Messiah to make Israel so prosperous?

Israel expects the Messiah to bring the nation to the peak of peace and prosperity, not to keep it alone, but so she can funnel that blessing out to all the other nations of the world. This fulfills the Abrahamic Covenant prospect that through Israel a King would rule and spread that rule to the whole planet.

Les explains that while reading a weekly rabbi's article in the Jerusalem Post, he saw that Israel, like many in Israel lately, is looking for their Messiah. The rabbi said Israel is looking for the one who will bring the nation to the peak of peace and prosperity. But Israel does not want to keep it for themselves; they want their Messiah to bring Israel to the peak so she can funnel it out to all the other nations. Les says this matched what he had taught for 20 years: the prospect given to Abraham was that out of Israel would come a King who would not only rule Israel but spread that rule to the whole planet through Israel. This is the concept of the Abrahamic Covenant beginning in Genesis chapter 12, where God put His finger on one man, promised to make of him a nation, give them a geographical land, and eventually set up government, because people in a land without government would have anarchy.
