Does anyone ever seek God on their own, or does God always seek us first?
No one ever seeks God on their own; God is always the seeker and makes the first move. He prompts a human being to respond. Scripture teaches that every child of Adam is condemned already and detests the light, so God's initiative is necessary.
Les teaches that no human being ever seeks God; God is always the seeker. God always makes that first move, and He is the one who prompts a human being to respond. Les points to John's Gospel, chapter 3, verses 17, 19, and 20, showing that God is not willing that any should perish. John 3:18 says that he who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who believes not is condemned already. Les explains that this condemnation comes by being born of Adam, not by sinning. As he put it, we do not become sinners because we sin; we sin because we are sinners. Every child of Adam detests the light, does not want the light, and is condemned already, Jesus said.
