Les Feldick Bible Study

Does mankind naturally seek after God on their own?

No. Mankind will never, of his own volition, go looking for God; it is contrary to our makeup. Adam and Eve hid after sinning, and God had to find them. God must make the first move, though the cross's work was sufficient for everybody.

Les explains that when Adam and Eve sinned and made fig leaves, they did not run to meet the Lord in the garden; they hid. God had to find them. Les says this has never changed: mankind will never, of his own volition, go looking for God because it is contrary to our makeup. God has to make the first move. Les clarifies this does not mean extreme Calvinism, where God has already picked who He will save; the work of the cross was sufficient for everybody. He points to John 10's door to the sheepfold, located at ground level, not beyond anybody's reach, yet it still has to begin with God.
