Why do many Christians think God is finished with the Jewish people?

Many in Christendom hold that God is finished with the Jewish people because they view them as Christ killers who rejected their Messiah, and because God allowed their dispersion and the temple's destruction. Paul rebuts this in Romans 10, showing Jew and Gentile alike are under sin and salvation is offered on the same level playing field.

Les explains that in Romans 10 Paul is rebutting the widespread Christendom opinion that God is all through with the Jew. The reasoning is that Jews were the Christ killers, rejected their Messiah, and God sent them into dispersion and destroyed their temple. Les notes Martin Luther also detested the Jews from a religious viewpoint because he felt they had killed the Messiah, but says that is not according to Scripture. Romans 10 deals with the Jew in this present age and has application for us; salvation is now offered on the same level playing field, with the Jew neither advantaged nor disadvantaged, since both are alike under sin and in need of salvation.
