Can a culture be full of religion and Bible-based religion yet not know who Jesus really is?

Les explains that people may promote many other gods and practice much religion, yet when drawn before the great white throne they are speechless because they refused to recognize who He really is. He calls it sad that the world is full of religion, and even western cultures base much of it on this book, while being totally ignorant of who Jesus Christ really is. Les illustrates this from a home Bible class: when he said Jesus Christ was the creator of Genesis 1, mouths dropped, and several later asked if he was sure. The more one gets into this book, he says, the more convinced one becomes that the one who hung on the Roman cross created the wood of that cross, the mount it was planted on, and all the hosts of heaven.
