What did God give wild animals to eat in Genesis 1:30?
Genesis 1:30 states that to every beast of the earth, including lions and tigers, to every fowl of the air, and to everything creeping upon the earth wherein there is life, God gave every green herb for food. This describes the original creation diet before the curse, when wild animals ate vegetation.
Les explains that Genesis 1:30 must be understood in light of the original creation before Adam sinned and before the curse came in. God says, “And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so.” This includes the lions, tigers, and everything else. Earlier in verse 29, God gave Adam, Eve, and the human race every herb bearing seed and every tree yielding seed for food; the King James word “meat” there should be understood as “food.” The same pattern applies to the animals: every green herb was given for food. Les relates this to Isaiah’s prophecy that the day is coming when wild, carnivorous, meat-eating animals will eat the same diet cattle do today, grass and so on, because the kingdom will be a reversion back to the economy before Adam sinned.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
