What kind of nation did God promise Abraham?
God promised Abraham that He would make of him a great nation, a people totally different from any other race on earth, through whom God would bring the plan of redemption to all humanity, with a specific land and God as their king.
Les explains that God picked one man, Abraham, out of Ur of the Chaldeans, who was originally a Syrian, not a Jew, though he became the father of the Jewish people. God promised Abraham that out of him He would bring about a nation of people totally different than any other race on earth. This nation, Israel, would be the vehicle through which God would communicate and bring about the whole plan of redemption to the whole human race. In Genesis 12, God gave Abraham the Abrahamic covenant, promising, 'I will make of you a great nation, I will put you in a geographical area of land, and one day I will come and be your king and be your government.'
