What did God promise Abraham about a nation and a land?
God promised that out of Abraham would come a nation of people, whom He would place in a specific geographical area of land. He also promised that one day He would set up the government in the person of the King, who would also need to be their Redeemer to solve sin.
Les explains that the Abrahamic covenant was that out of Abraham would come a nation of people whom God would put in a geographical area of land. Then one day He would come and set up the government in the person of the King, but He would also have to be their Redeemer, because there had to be a solution to the sin problem. Les notes this covenant ground explains why Jesus first confined His earthly ministry to the lost sheep of the house of Israel rather than Gentiles or Samaritans. Old Testament prophecy, Les says, has parallel lines: the coming of a King and a Kingdom, and the coming of a suffering Savior. The Jews of Jesus' day wanted the King and the Kingdom and deliverance from the Romans, but they did not want to deal with the sin problem.
