What did God promise Abraham about a nation and land?

God promised Abraham that He would make of him a nation of people, take that nation, and give them a geographical area of land. This promise, part of the Abrahamic Covenant beginning in Genesis 12, included that God Himself would later set up government over them.

Les explains that this was the prospect given to Abraham: out of the nation of Israel would come a King who would not only rule Israel but would spread that rule to the whole planet through Israel. He ties this to the Abrahamic Covenant beginning with Genesis chapter 12, where God put His finger on one man and told him He would make of him a nation of people, take that nation, and put them into a geographical area of land. At some point down the road, God Himself would come and set up the government, because people in a geographical area cannot function without government; otherwise there is anarchy. Les notes Israel became a nation in Egypt in slavery, came out under Moses, and after the wilderness experience Joshua took them into the Promised Land.
