What did God promise Abram about a nation that would know the true God?

God promised Abram that he would have a nation of people who alone on earth would possess the knowledge of the one true God. Beginning with Abram, God made this promise because Abram would respond, establishing a people distinct from the pagan world.

Les teaches that before Abram, there was no one with a knowledge of the one true God except as God reached down to Abram, knowing he would respond. Beginning with Abram, God promised he would have a nation of people who would be the only people on earth with a knowledge of the one true God. This covenant line was first given to Abraham, then repeated to Isaac and Jacob, while Gentiles had no part in those covenant promises. The surrounding context notes the then-known world was steeped in paganism, as seen in ancient Greek cities filled with temples to gods and goddesses.
