Do true believers ever deliberately plan to commit sins like drunkenness or adultery?
No. A true believer does not make up his mind to go out and get drunk or commit adultery; such deliberate planning is not characteristic of genuine faith. Yet believers are still subject to sin, can fall, and must constantly be on guard, because the flesh remains prone to fall.
Les explains that believers are not immune to sin. He says he has never known a true believer who simply makes up his mind to go out and get drunk or to commit adultery, or who makes up his mind to go out and "default somebody," but he acknowledges it can happen. Therefore, a believer has to be constantly on guard. He connects this to Revelation 12:10, where Satan is the accuser of the brethren, accusing believers before God day and night. If it were impossible for a believer to sin, Satan would have nothing to accuse them of, but he did, does, and will until we are in the Lord's presence. As long as we are in this body of flesh, we are prone to fall. The distinction is between deliberately planning such sins and the believer's ongoing vulnerability to sin.
