Les Feldick Bible Study

How should a believer relate to the possibility of falling into sin?

A believer should live in constant awareness, not wanting to fall or commit sin, while knowing it is possible. Grace is never license. If a believer falls into great sin, salvation is not lost; like David, he should beg forgiveness, and conviction itself shows he is a true child of God.

Les teaches that grace is not license, so no one should conclude that because believers are safe and secure they may do whatever they want. Instead, believers live in constant awareness that they do not want to fall or commit sin, yet they are commonsensical enough to know they could. He hopes never to fall into any great sin, while acknowledging that all are guilty of the mundane sins of everyday living and thoughts. David illustrates this: he fell into great sin—adultery with Bathsheba and murdering Uriah—but he was a believer and did not lose his salvation; he poured out his heart begging forgiveness. His conviction showed he was a true child of God, for otherwise it would not have bothered him.
