Into what does the Holy Spirit baptize believers—a local church, a denomination, or the body?

The Holy Spirit baptizes every believer into the body of Christ, not into a local church or a denomination. This is an act of God, invisible and received by faith, occurring the moment one believes. It is not something we can see or touch, yet it is certain because Scripture says so.

Les explains that by one Spirit we are all baptized into the body, not a local church and not a denomination. He points out that Paul never writes to anyone but the believer, so “all” means all believers, not lost people. This baptism is an act of God in the invisible realm, something we cannot put our hands on or feel. Like the other things God did the moment we believed, we know it happened by faith because the book says so. At the moment every child of God believed, the Holy Spirit baptized them into that body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:13

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
