At the final judgment, can anyone truthfully say God didn't provide the need for forgiveness?
No. Christ’s death paid the sin debt for every human being, so God has supplied the need for forgiveness for all. No one at final judgment can truthfully claim God failed to provide it. The provision is complete; people are lost for rejecting the pardon, not because God withheld forgiveness.
Les teaches that God was in Christ reconciling the world, not just the few believers, and that when Christ died He paid the sin debt for every human being who has ever lived. Therefore no one need ever wake up in eternal doom and say, “God didn’t supply my need,” because He did. Les illustrates this with a convicted murderer who was pardoned by the governor but tore up the pardon in anger and rebellion. At the gallows he said, “Tell the world I’m not dying for murdering a man. I’m dying because I rejected my pardon.” Les applies that to every human being: they have been pardoned and reconciled, everything has been done on their behalf, but they would not believe it and stomped it underfoot. Their eternal doom is not because their sin was unpaid, but because they rejected the provided pardon.
