Will God overlook sin since Jesus paid for it on the cross?
No. God hates sin and will not wink at it, even though He has paid for it and forgiven it through Christ's death on the cross. He can never overlook sin; He cannot excuse it. Forgiveness does not mean indifference to sin.
Les explains that God hates sin and will not wink at it, even though He has paid for it and forgiven it because of His death on the cross. He stresses that God is never going to wink at sin; He cannot. The passage shows Paul dealt severely with a sinful man, turning him over to Satan so his flesh could be touched unless he repented and got right with God. This is a picture of how believers must deal with sin today. Paul says all of them profited—Paul, the congregation, and the guilty party—because everything got squared away, bringing comfort and joy, including to Titus, whose spirit was refreshed by the Corinthians' obedience.
