How should Christians interpret the Gospels since they were originally given to Israel under the law?
Christians should not discard or blanket out the Gospels. They should recognize that in their original setting Jesus spoke to Israel under the law, not to believers today. Yet believers may still come in and make application of those principles to themselves.
Les explains that the Gospels are not to be thrown out or blanketed out. In their original setting, they record God dealing with Israel under the law, and Jesus' earthly ministry was directed to Israel, as when He said, "You are the salt of the earth." That was Israel's role. Believers today are now the light of the world, but that is not who Jesus was addressing in His earthly ministry. Still, Les teaches that we can come in and make applications from the Gospels for ourselves.
